“Now keep in mind I’m an artist, and I’m sensitive about my (ish)…” ~ Erykah Badu
Okay, so I don’t necessarily consider myself an artist (that’s a lofty classification of which I’m not yet worthy), but I feel Ms. Badu on that one. Getting off my proverbial behind and starting this (photo)blog was something I’ve debated internally for quite some time. But I’m glad it’s finally up, and more than that, I’m happy you stopped by to check it out! It’s an honor. *bows*
My name’s Jon. Long story short, I’m a twenty-something PR professional living, working, growing and playing in my hometown of Kansas City, Missouri. Beyond photography, my interests primarily lie in music, football, politics and societal issues. I’m also acutely fascinated by the human condition – you know, why we are the way we are and all that good stuff.
But more than anything, I’m blessed.
And I’m a diehard Mizzou fan. Know that.
What can you expect from my blog? A few new photos each week (and the stories behind them if they’re worth sharing), a rant/rave here and there, gross overuse of both parentheses and ellipses (sorry, I can’t help it…) and leads on cool stuff/people out on “these here Internets” & elsewhere.
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to come through. It’s appreciated more than you’ll probably ever know.
About The Name
Challenge (\ˈcha-lənj\): to arouse or stimulate especially by presenting with difficulties.
Catharsis (\kə-ˈthär-səs\): purification or purgation of the emotions (as pity and fear) primarily through art; a purification or purgation that brings about spiritual renewal or release from tension; elimination of a complex by bringing it to consciousness and affording it expression.
When I decided to pursue photography as a “full-time hobby,” someone asked what this undertaking would mean to me. I explained that I didn’t view this as a means to get money or find fame. Instead, taking pictures gave me a near-perfect balance of “challenge and catharsis,” or in other words, something simultaneously stimulating and therapeutic.
So while I may never capture that perfect shot, I guarantee you I’ll have a lot of fun trying. Thanks and enjoy!
peace,
~jbg
